What you'll learn

The course will give you a thorough understanding of the roles and responsibilities of educators, educational theories, and inclusive practice in further education. It also covers each stage of the teaching and learning cycle, which includes identifying learner needs, planning, facilitating, assessing, and evaluating learning. This comprehensive course equips educators with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective and inclusive teaching.

You must have access to 30 hours of teaching practice, which can be in a paid or voluntary capacity.

There are 6 mandatory units of study (21 credits) as follows:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training

  • Delivering education and training

  • Assessing learners in education and training

  • Using resources for education and training

  • Inclusive practice

Assessment Method

This qualification is assessed on an ongoing basis during the course. Assessment consists of a series of assignment which you will complete as you progress through the online course content.


Teaching practice: 3 hours must be assessed directly (out of the 30 hours which must be evidenced). EMD Assessors can assess via Zoom or video recording, or authorise a suitably qualified person in your company (holding minimum Level 4 Education and Training, or equivalent) to observe you on our behalf.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. This course is open to learners of any age (19+) and background. You don’t need any prior qualifications or experience although you are expected to be familiar with using online systems. You must be confident in your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English.
